I have a stock TJ sitting on 33" BFG AT's.
I'd like to replace the stock suspension, but I don't need to get crazy with the lift. Anybody got suggestions on a full suspension system upgrade? I'm thinking 2-3" lift will be perfect for my needs.

Man you stuffed 33's at stock height?
I have a Rough Country 2.5 and it's been good for the money, but if I could do it over again I'd probably get Teraflex, BDS, or Old Man Emu.
If you can, get a kit with springs and shocks.

Definitely want to upgrade the shocks and springs. - TJ is my buddy

Another issue for debate:
I have basic hand tools. However, I would like to do my own work or participate in the installation of the upgrades. Any suggestions?

I think all I used to install mine was a ratchet set, floor jack, jack stands, and a spring compressor I rented from Autozone. My lift kit was the first mod I did to my jeep. It's pretty straightforward to install new springs and shocks, especially if you're staying at or under 3". Take a look into the BDS kit. They've got just about the best warranty of any suspension company as well as a good product.

It wasn't too hard to do. I have 33s now over 2.5" lift, Shocks/springs. Trying to remember, I think the only thing you need other than basic tools is the spring compressor. New or used lift if you can find it start $200 - $400

Teraflex or Rubicon Express for lift kits.
