Does anyone have a winch plate on their factory bumper with a JK or JKU? I was interested in how it's mounted.

Ours used to have one before we upgraded to a steel bumper. We kept the plate but it just recently got mounted to my xj. It bolts between the frame rails then wraps up over the back of the bumper between the grill and bumper. Then hangs over the bumper to mount winch. You have to cut two slits in the back of the bumper to allow the bumper to fit back on around the support brackets. But the plate is wide enough to cover the slits so they are unseen. Here are some pics when it was mounted Attachments:

So were the spacers on the bottom of the mount in between the mount and frame?

It has three pieces. Two brackets then the plate. The brackets mounted in between frame rails (maybe to the backside of the factory bumper mounts) then went up and bolted to plate above the bumper. I don't know if ours is smittybilt or not but this one from quadratec is almost identicle.
