DW will only be corrected after a VERY detailed inspection and worn/loose replacement of ALL front end components and ONLY then can a proper alignment be done !!!!!!! A properly set up front end will run 70 MPH WITHOUT a stabilizer or shocks, these were added by manufacturers to increase user comfort .........

Agree a stabilizer will only mask the problem not fix it

.......However if you have a SHIMMY and not a TRUE DW.... a quick ck/adjustment of the TOE with a tape measure and a trustworthy helper just MITE be all thats needed........DO NOT waste $$$$ on a 4 wheel COMPUTER AIDED alignment as the computer is ONLY as accurate as the operator.........Inspect it,re-fresh it,align it, drive and maintain it.............if that can't be accomplished; take it to Gordy Kay's shop and let them FIX IT.

I think I have a true DW. I'm driving down the road getting up to hwy speed when the front end starts shaking so violently I have to slow down. Who can do a detailed inspection of the front end parts? I'd like to have it set up correctly.

Get a helper to turn the steering wheel back and forth (just a half turn wiggle is best) with the jeep on the ground while you look and feel for stuff moving where it isn't supposed to. If all steering linkage is tight, jack up front end and check for bad ball joints or bad unit bearings (usually pulling and pushing on a tire/wheel will reveal movement that isn't supposed to be there. Bad bushings on the track bar or link arms will do it too.

I never checked all that. Guess I need to. I just had a slight wobble at 45-50 that would go away faster or slower... Cheap stabilizer fixed it, or masked it... at least.

The guys at the shop said it could be my tires.

The guys at the shop said it could be my tires. You said you have had a lot of work done on the jeep re-gear and such. if the shop thinks it is the tires rotate them and see if it changes. I could see a bad tire causing problems but not if it is on the rear look hard at what has been worked on lately.

The tires were just balanced and rotated, but didn't help any.

Please ck and make sure that front axle is truly disconnecting as ..if the vehicle (thinks) its in 2wd it may actually be in 4wd and at highway speeds will cause the feared DW..........( one wheel is fighting the other for dominance ) could also have a bad/disconnected wheel speed sensor

Along with steering components, my TJ developed it when's tires would wear bad(I ran mine until they looked like racing slicks) and one set had a broken belt that also caused the DW.
