Okay guys I gotta get this fixed. The recent cold has sucked with the heat in my jeep not working. This has been going on for a year.
The engine temp never makes it to normal temperature (a bit under 210, same as my old WJ with the 4.0). Even in summer, it stays about halfway between the 100 and 210. Its the same when the weather gets cold, but because the engine hasn't heated up, according to the gauge, any time I put the a/c on heat I just get cold air.
The one exception is when I'm just sitting still with the engine running, like in a drive thru. It'll heat on up and even go above 210 all the way up to setting off the "Check Gauges" light because the jeep's getting too hot. Any time it gets where it should, the heater blows warm air like it should.
What do you guys think? Radiator, thermostat, heater core?

First thing I would ck is to see if your low on coolant not in the overflow jug let it cool off and pop the rad cap?

Are you sure there is a thermostat in the jeep?

Coolant's fine. I don't know for sure there's a thermostat in it because I haven't opened it up, but I don't quite understand why there wouldn't be.

Heater core has nothing to do with not getting hot or running hot at idle. Rad can cause hot at idle but not ruining to cold. thermostat is about the only thing that will cause it not to get to temp. If thermostat is gone no restriction to heat water up and when it does get hot moving to fast through rad to cool off. you could have a hose that is trying to collapse. I would put a thermostat in it and go from there

Yeah the consensus is thermostat. If it overheats at idle after that, I'll be looking into a fan clutch.
Anybody have a warm garage they could help me replace the thermostat in? All I have is my apartment parking lot.

I'll drive just about anywhere to get this heat working. If you don't get any help in Starkville let me know and will get together. Can't have a brother scraping ice off the inside of a windshield.

Yeah. Tried to last night but the thermostat housing cracked. Came back today with a new housing and another new thermostat. Now I have heat! And better mpg too

Your welcome always glad to help a friend. That heat is not going to last if you don't get the upper rad hose fixed. Remember if the heater stop working it will be because you are low of coolant due to the upper rad hose leaking
